Banking Procedure

a. Bank verifies again and process your NRBFC and/or NRBNC account.
b. If successful, you will receive an email notification confirming that your account has been created.
c. If you have chosen mobile and internet banking facilities you will receive a subsequent email with the details (subject to such facility being provided by your chosen bank).
d. If unsuccessful, you will receive an email notification with reasons for rejecting the application.

Products and Features

A Non-Resident Bhutanese can avail two types of accounts:
  i. Non-resident Bhutanese Foreign Currency Account (NRBFC)
  ii. Non-resident Bhutanese Ngultrum Account (NRBNC)
Under NRBFC, an individual can directly deposit into his/her foreign currency account. Similarly, an individual can also convert any foreign currency into Ngultrum and deposit into his/her NRBNC account.

Account Opening Checklist

Please read the following conditions before proceeding with your Foreign Currency Account application:
If you do not have a deposit account, this application will provide you with one. You can choose any Savings or Fixed Deposit Account to be linked to your Foreign Currency Account.

You will need to fill an online form and submit along with the digital copy of the following documents:
1. Passport Copy;
2. CID Copy;
3. Passport size Photo of you;
4. Two Specimen Signatures; and

Along with the above mandatory documents, please enclose any one from the following documents:
  Letter from Bhutanese Embassy / Ministry of Labour & Human Resources / Armed Forces; or
  Letter from employer for employment abroad; or
  Letter from University/Educational Institution for education abroad; or
  Any supporting document for proof of residency abroad(phone bill/electricity bill/payslip,etc.).

What?

A cash pickup is a way that the beneficiary of a currency exchange can access their money. They typically collect the funds, in cash, from a physical location, rather than having them paid into a bank account.

Why?

When a beneficiary does not want an international money transfer deposited to a bank account, many currency providers will allow you to designate a money transfer as a cash pickup. In these cases, the beneficiary simply goes to a designated location or store and shows a valid photo ID, together with the transfer reference number.
Cash pickup services can be very useful for the unbanked or underbanked, or if a bank charges fees for withdrawing cash from an account. Many currency providers either offer cash pickup directly from their stores, or from agents in partner networks. Cash pickup facilities do vary by region, so check with a currency provider to see the pickup services they provide.
Note that fees for cash pickup can be slightly higher than for transfer directly into a bank account.

Why?

A mobile money transfer is a fast, easy and secure transaction whereby a sender sends money from their bank, credit/debit card or own mobile money account to another mobile money account. For a transfer to take place - a recipient needs a mobile money account and the sender requires the recipient’s mobile money account number. Funds can then be transferred in an instant.
